Born and raised a Virginian, Barbara was inspired by hardworking parents from rural areas of SW Virginia who valued good oral health. Her BA in Medical Technology from Mary Washington College offered her clinical experience in several MD, NC and VA hospitals. A keen awareness of the limited access to dental care and dental education in the Appalachian region of Virginia gave rise to her interest in addressing those needs through the VDA Foundation’s Donated Dental Services program and Mission of Mercy (MOM) project. Working with the elderly, disabled and underinsured for nearly two decades has given her a solid knowledge base of the oral health needs of Virginians. Barbara is delighted that her husband and children have also played a significant role in the MOM projects. She enjoys that time spent together helping others and the strong friendships formed with the many, many caring volunteers!
